If there is something you should know about the Philippines, is that we love basketball. We don’t care if the rest of the world is mad about football, hoops is for us. So it seems only apt that an American would fly halfway across the world to document our love for basketball. Rafe Bartholomew wrote the book Pacific Rims and is now back for his book tour.
Here are the the exact dates that I filched from his blog:
Saturday, August 21, 5 p.m. National Bookstore, Superbranch Cubao
Tuesday, August 24, 6 p.m. at Powerbooks, Greenbelt 4 (with special guest and dear friend Bill Velasco)
Wednesday, August 25, 6 p.m. at Fully Booked, Bonifacio High Street
Saturday, August 28, 4 p.m. National Bookstore, Ayala Mall, Cebu City
Anyway, because of my love of his book, and knowledge of some pretty high up people in the PBA organization, I’ve been watching PBA games again. And it just hit me that PBA games (Philippine Basketball Association) should be a tourist attraction in this country. People go to Bangkok to watch the muay thai so why not the basketball? I know basketball is not exactly unique to this country, but anywhere where a big congregation of people gather to devote themselves to national passion is worth a look-see.
