TPLEX has opened!

The Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) has opened up to Gerona, bypassing Tarlac City, tengkgad!  Will try it out this weekend.  Will let you know how it goes.

I took it it this weekend (Nov. 8-10, 2013) and it was awesome!  It must have cut travel time by an hour or something.  I used to hate passing thru Tarlac because it was so long and traffic.  The next time I pass the TPLEX it will probably reach past Carmen Rosales by then.

According to the Inquirer today, TPLEX has reached Carmen Rosales.  Grrr, SM.  April 14, 2014.

New Road: Mindanao Avenue to NLEX (North Luzon Expressway)

I’m posting this from Pampanga. Wherein I just took the new Mindanao Avenue connection to the North Luzon Expressway or as it is fondly known now as the NLEX.

From Makati I drove down Edsa till the end and turned right in SM City North Edsa and Trinoma. And at the first corner I turned left at Mindanao Avenue. I drove down Mindanao Avenue and eventually found signs that said it was going to Meycauyan (one of the stops on the NLEX). But basically, you just have to find signs that say NLEX (North Luzon Expressway).

What normally took me around an hour and a half to get to (San Fernando, Pampanga) now only took one hour. This new road will save you as much as half an hour of travel time! Am going to take it going back to Makati, Metro Manila later. Let’s see how much time it saves me. 🙂

Okay, just got back. Took the exit that said going to Novaliches. Just anticipate it a bit, because there is a concrete barrier which prevents you from cutting into the lane at the last moment. Start looking out for it right after Valenzuela.

Once you do exit, follow the signs that point towards Novaliches. When you get to the end of the Mindanao Ave.(there’s a McDonalds on the right), you can chooose to turn right to go to Edsa or turn left to pass through C5. I don’t know if Tandang Sora has already been widened to accept this new influx of traffic. You can also just pass through UP using the stud farm (yes, horses).

I chose to turn right towards Edsa. Had to make a U-turn under the elevated MRT rail. Eventually they should put some sort of cloverleaf or bypass here because a lot of time was wasted making that U-turn.

All in all I’m satisfied with this Mindanao Ave. bypass. Kudos to the Gloria administration for surprising us with another well planned road construction.

Now I’m just waiting for them to open the SLEX (South Luzon Expressway) connection to the STAR Tollway (Southern Tagalog Arterial Road). (It did, and it’s awesome sauce.)

Now I’m just waiting for the TPLEX (Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway) to open up, lol. Target 2013, it seems. 🙂

New road, old road: Sagada to Vigan

I’m all about taking the straight line between two points. And I know a lot of backpackers would like to take the road from Sagada to Vigan via Tirad pass (historical landmark!) From what I’ve heard, this is an arduous difficult route. And I’m not a fan of winding, broken down mountain routes. But since Gloria has supposedly fixed the road from Baguio to Sagada, wouldn’t it be awesome if she fixes this route, too.

New Roads: Batangas

The SLEX will soon connect to the Starway, making traveling to Anilao and Batangas city much easier.

There are plans to extend the SLEX to Lucena city.  Which means it will be easier (and cheaper) to hop on the bus (or the train!) to Lucena and then catch a ferry to Caticlan right beside Boracay.
